A cubby house is an awesome place for your kids to grow and play. Often, cubby houses are featured as part of a playset, but they can also be standalone cottage like spaces that can offer tons of opportunities for indoor play.

To make a cubby house more suitable for indoor play, you can incorporate some cool indoor features. Here’s how you can improve your cubby.

Cubby House Furniture

Turn your cubby house into a little house. Add some little chairs and tables for your kids, and let them have tea parties in their own private space. Some bean bags will make for some comfortable sitting arrangements, and an old coffee table can make for a cubby table.

Cubby House Artwork

Put up their artwork to make the cubby house truly theirs, or buy some from their favourite shows and games. This will give the cubby house character and will make your kids love it. Imagine a star wars themed cubby or a jungle themed one. It all starts with artwork.

Cubby House Kitchen

Does your kid love cooking? Pretend kitchens are the next big thing when it comes to cubbies. They allow your kids to pretend play with cooking and do all sorts of weird and wonderful science experiments.

Get them teapots, pans and pots; fill the kitchen with felt fruit and fake ingredients - and watch them go to work. They’ll be making all sorts of things, but without the mess!

Handyman tools

Do you have a little engineer under your wing? Get them some little tools and have them pretend to build you something awesome. They’ll naturally find objects in the yard to operate on, and it’s sure to bring everyone a laugh.

Treasure chest

A treasure chest can store their toys. Toy cars and dolls can easily fit in the chest, as well as dress up clothes to play their favourite games in. Your kids will love halloween dress ups or super hero themed paraphernalia, no matter what time of the year it is.

White boards and black boards

Do your kids love drawing? Get them a black board or white board for their cubby house. They can spend hours drawing and playing their favourite games with their friends. Some great games they could play are hangman and noughts and crosses. Drawing will keep them occupied for years to come, and after, these boards can be used for studying as well!

Cash register

Kids love stores. Why not get them a cash register to play with. They’ll pretend to buy and sell things to their friends, and it's sure to occupy them for a while. The cash register will go well with the pretend kitchen, as now they’ll be able to sell their little creations.

Pretend phone

Phones are a great toy for younger kids. They’ll pretend to call their friends and spend tons of time talking to themselves over the phone. Some models will even answer them back and be synched with ringtones.

Telescope

Telescopes will allow your little ones to spy on fun things in the yard. From birds to crickets, they’ll discover a new found sense of curiosity. Some telescopes will actually magnify what they see, which will introduce a new level of fun!

Navigation wheel

If you have a ship-themed cubby, a navigation wheel will make for a great addition. By steering the wheel, your kids can pretend to sail on the high seas. They can pretend to be pirates looking for treasure, especially with the right dress up costumes to match!

Cubby House Bed

A cubby house bed is another great addition to any cubby. Have your kids sleepover in their home away from home with their friends. It'll be sure to be an adventure. Indoor cubby houses also exist that add a twist to traditional beds, for example, Vuly's play tent bed, the Vuly Den, which can be placed in the house.

A cubby house guide may help you decide on the best cubby house for you.
